CHIREC’s Advait Achanta has created an affordable handheld device using a CO sensor, Arduino Nano, and Raspberry Pi 4, enabling rapid detection of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through breath analysis. Globally, COPD ranks third in causes of death, aligning with UN’s goal of reducing preventable disease-related deaths by 2030. This device provides a low-cost solution for COPD detection, especially in countries like India, which has a high COPD prevalence.

He’s currently integrating Artificial Intelligence for improved accuracy using lung scans. The project has filed for a patent in India and was a global finalist at IEEE YESIST12 in September 2023, Egypt.
